Locken Acceptable Use Policy
Effective date: October 16, 2026
Last updated: October 17, 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") sets the rules for using the Locken applications, website and related services (the "Service") provided by Locken ("we", "us"). It is part of the Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms.
1. Purpose and scope
Locken exists to help students focus. Because Locken can control apps on a computer, record screen usage locally and connect to school and AI accounts, misuse could harm other people, their devices or their data. This Policy applies to everyone who installs, accesses or uses the Service, and to anything you do with or through it.
2. Core principles
- Use Locken on yourself, for yourself. It is a self-management tool.
- Respect other people's devices, accounts and privacy.
- Leave the Service's security alone.
- Follow the rules of the services you connect, including your school's.
- Obey the law.
3. Prohibited conduct
You must not, and must not attempt to, encourage or help anyone else to:
3.1 Devices and monitoring
- (a) Install or run the Service on a computer you do not own or are not authorized to use.
- (b) Use the Service to monitor, record or control another person's computer use, including their screen usage, apps or browsing, without that person's knowledge and consent, or in violation of any wiretapping, surveillance, computer-misuse or privacy law.
- (c) Configure the Service to hide itself from, deceive or harass the person using a computer.
- (d) Use the Service as a substitute for a parental-control, employee-monitoring or security product. Parents, guardians or schools who set up Locken for someone else must do so openly, with that person's awareness, and in compliance with applicable law.
3.2 Security and integrity of the Service
- (a) Probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service, our servers or our providers, except under the good-faith security research terms in our Security & Data Protection Policy.
- (b) Access or attempt to access another user's account or data, including by using the Service's public API key to query data you are not entitled to, guessing credentials or reusing stolen ones.
- (c) Bypass or disable authentication, rate limits, two-step verification, access controls, update-signature checks or other security measures.
- (d) Create accounts by automated means, create accounts in bulk, or flood the Service with requests, sign-ups, code emails or traffic.
- (e) Introduce malware, or interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers or networks.
- (f) Distribute modified, repackaged or unofficial builds of Locken, or present any software as Locken or as endorsed by us.
- (g) Decompile, reverse engineer or extract source code, except where applicable law expressly permits it despite this restriction.
3.3 Accounts
- (a) Share your account, password or sign-in codes, or use another person's account.
- (b) Impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent your identity, age or affiliation, including on the sign-up age screen.
- (c) Create an account if you are under 13, or under the minimum age for your country without required parental consent.
- (d) Buy, sell, rent or transfer accounts.
- (e) Create a new account to evade a suspension or termination.
3.4 Connected services
- (a) Link a Canvas account or use a Canvas access token that is not your own, or use Canvas data in violation of your school's policies.
- (b) Use an AI provider API key that is not yours or that you are not authorized to use.
- (c) Use AI features in breach of the AI provider's terms, usage policies or age requirements, including to generate content that is unlawful, harmful, harassing, sexually explicit involving minors, or that infringes others' rights.
- (d) Use the Service to scrape, harvest or bulk-download data from any third-party service.
3.5 Academic integrity
- (a) Use the Service, including its AI features, to commit plagiarism, cheating or any other breach of your school's academic-integrity rules.
- (b) Represent AI-generated text as your own work where your school prohibits it.
3.6 Content you provide
Your profile name, profile image and any other content you submit to our servers must not:
- (a) be unlawful, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, threatening, harassing or hateful;
- (b) sexualize or endanger minors in any way;
- (c) infringe intellectual-property, privacy or publicity rights;
- (d) contain personal information of others without their consent; or
- (e) contain malware, links to malware or deceptive links.
3.7 Commercial and legal misuse
- (a) Resell, sublicense, rebrand or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
- (b) Use the Service in violation of any applicable law or regulation, including export-control and sanctions laws.
- (c) Use the Service in any way that could expose us, our users or third parties to harm or legal liability.
4. Reporting violations
If you see a violation of this Policy, or believe someone is misusing Locken to monitor you, contact daanu.focus@gmail.com. Report security vulnerabilities to daanu.focus@gmail.com as described in our Security & Data Protection Policy. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
5. Enforcement
5.1 Investigation. We may investigate suspected violations using the information available to us. Because most Locken data stays on users' computers, our ability to investigate is limited to information on our servers and information reported to us.
5.2 Actions we may take. Depending on the severity and circumstances, we may, with or without notice:
- (a) issue a warning;
- (b) remove or reset content stored on our servers (for example, a profile name or image);
- (c) limit features, including rate-limiting or blocking sign-in attempts;
- (d) temporarily suspend an account;
- (e) permanently terminate an account and refuse future access;
- (f) revoke active sessions; and
- (g) report conduct to law enforcement or appropriate authorities, and preserve relevant information as the law requires. Apparent child sexual exploitation material will be reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) or the relevant authority.
5.3 Proportionality. We aim to respond in proportion to the harm. We may act immediately, without warning, where there is a risk to the security of the Service, to other users or to anyone's safety, or where the law requires it.
6. Appeals
If we take action against your account and you believe we made a mistake, email daanu.focus@gmail.com within thirty (30) days with your account email and an explanation. A person who was not involved in the original decision will review the appeal where practical, and we will reply within thirty (30) days. This does not limit any rights you have under applicable law.
7. Changes
We may update this Policy. Material changes will be notified as described in Section 21 of the Terms of Service.
